About Benita

When I'm not hard at work with my Altadena Arts Magnet family, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Nick, and our two children, Madison and Anna. My husband Nick is a Seismic Analyst for Caltech.  When he is not analyzing earthquakes or updating the CISN display, we enjoy taking long walks, cooking together and seeing movies and live shows.  Our son, Madison, is a music producer in Los Angeles, and our daughter, Anna, is a visual artist who is fluent in Mandarin and is currently a tool crib instructor at Art Center College of Design. I am an avid traveler, accomplished cook and opera singer.  Before becoming a teacher, I enjoyed an international singing career in operas, operettas and musical theatre productions.  I cannot help but share the joy of singing with my students as we walk down the halls singing to each other.

Dr. Scheckel has great hope for the future generations of our students. She is capable of spinning setbacks and difficulties into learning opportunities.
